My family is Halloween CRAZY as you may know! We spend weeks preparing for the big day, building props for the yard, creating costumes, painting pumpkins – I love all of it. We always have the scariest house in the neighborhood, and this year is no different! The kids and I were helping daddy in the garage last weekend and we kept hearing commercials for the 13th Floor Haunted House here in Denver. The idea really got planted in Pablo’s head, because he kept mentioning it to us at dinner all week! Can we go to the 13th Floor? Can we?? My kids are 13, 13, 11, and 11…which seems a bit young to go to a scary haunted house. But after all, they are NEIMANS, so I thought it might work out. I was pretty apprehensive, though, about taking a kid with autism. I knew he wouldn’t be scared of the jump props, but I worried about the smells, the strobe lights, and most of all, the long line to get in. After talking it through with Pablo, we decided to go for it. And it turned out AWESOME!
And here is something you may not know! The 13th Floor has a FAST PASS line so you don’t have to go through that long wait! We ended up getting Fast Pass tickets for all six of us, and our wait was probably only about 15 minutes. Buy these tickets online before you go (link above) because they have a limited number for each night and sell out quickly.
So how did it go? It was incredible. The performers were terrifying, the props were outstanding – I loved that so many classic horror movie themes were included! I saw Freddy, Jason, Michael Myers, plus more spiders, reptiles, aliens, and corpses than I could possibly count. I’m pretty sure I even saw a yeti. We must have been inside for thirty minutes! I had no idea it would go on for so long. This horror-obsessed mama was in heaven! Pablo did GREAT – of course, you know your own kids, so if you have a child with SEVERE sensory issues, proceed with caution – but I’m so glad we decided to take our boy. Even with the strobes, sirens, air blasts, he really enjoyed himself. It was a fantastic family outing for our freaky family.
If you’ve been thinking about hitting a haunted house, don’t wait! Buy your tickets and check out the 13th Floor – it was so awesome. They’re open every night through Halloween, plus the next two weekends in November. The 13th Floor is located at I-70 and Brighton Blvd just north of LoDo – the address is 4120 Brighton Blvd, Denver, CO 80216. Find them on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and on the web!
Special thanks to the Thirteenth Floor for being super rad and providing my family with Fast Pass tickets! You made this boy’s Fall Break pretty magical!
