Idahoan Steakhouse Potatoes

Attention potato lovers. Also, busy moms. And hungry teenagers. And anyone else looking for really tasty, really easy meal ideas. My family recently sampled Steakhouse® Mashed Baby Reds®, Idahoan‘s newest line of premium, restaurant-quality mashed potatoes, available exclusively in the Denver area. Four awesome flavors are available: Real Butter, Cheddar & Parmesan, Roasted Garlic and Twice Baked. Idahoan created this line by taking Baby Red potatoes grown in Idaho, removing the water, and combining them with real dairy ingredients. They come together in literally five minutes and are pretty dang tasty. Take a look!

So, a disclaimer. I wasn’t sure about these at first. I am not a fan of instant potatoes in the least. My mom’s from the south and everything she cooks is authentic, buttery, and melt-in-your-mouth. In other words, I did NOT grow up with a box of potato flakes in the pantry. So I was expecting these to be pretty sketch. Not the case! The instant I opened the package, I could see they didn’t look like other instant potatoes I’ve tried in the past. Instead of resembling soap flakes, the texture is more like that of crumbly POTATOES, like when you bake a potato and pierce it with a fork.

idahoan-plateOkay, let me share my family’s findings. I made these to go along with our pork chops and was pleasantly surprised with the feedback I got. As you know, I have four picky little kids and one picky husband. Out of my four kids, only one didn’t like them – but that’s the one with texture issues, who is fundamentally opposed to mashed potatoes of any kind and actually uses “mashed potato head” as an insult. Most of the kiddos gave it a thumbs up, which is a WIN as far as I’m concerned. And my picky husband asked for them in his lunchbox. Superwin.

I would love to share this product with YOU, since they probably are not yet available in your market! Idahoan has generously provided me with a package of every flavor, along with an awesome Idahoan prize pack full of goodies, to go to a lucky reader! Mamas, you need to try these – they’re a really nice addition to a weeknight meal. Just throw some chicken on the grill, some veggies, and these potatoes, and you’ve got a great family meal that comes together so quickly. Also, check out Idahoan Foods on Pinterest – they have tons of great recipes there for making fast, delicious meals using their products. I actually ended up making my own broccoli cheddar potato soup using some of these potatoes, and it was FANTASTIC. Unfortunately I didn’t use a recipe, I just kind of threw stuff together until it was amazing, so I don’t have a recipe to share. But I noticed Idahoan has an ENTIRE BOARD of soup recipes, so definitely check that out too!
